Day 3: Favourite Series

Memes are fun! Well, some of them are at least. That's why I'm participating in the 30 Day Meme I stumbled across at Chimneys and Magic.

Day Three - Favourite Series
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins | I had always been curious about this series but it was only a few months ago that I actually started to take them seriously. I'm so glad I finally read these utterly captivating books as they've become one of my instant favourites and actually lead me to read the Shiver series as mentioned below. I'm sure the movies release in early 2012 will cast it into Twilight/HP popularity!

Runner-Up:
The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater

Day 2: A Book You Want To Re-Read

Day Two - A Book You Want To Re-Read
Feeling Sorry for Celia (Ashbury/Brookfield #1) by Jaclyn MoriartySadly, I had to change up the theme for today to suit me a little better as I don't recall ever having re-read a book and certainly not three times so instead, I've selected the Ashbury/Brookfield series because I find them totally hilarious and would love to go back and actually read them in succession this time around.

Runner-Up:
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

Day 1: The Best Book I Read Last Year

Memes are fun! Well, some of them are at least. That's why I'm participating in the 30 Day Meme I stumbled across at Chimneys and Magic.
Day One - The Best Book Read in 2010
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins | LOVE. Pure love is what I think of this book. It's perfect in almost every way and one of the best I've ever read. And to think, I might never have bought a copy of it weren't for all the raving done by so many bloggers on it's release day. Now I'm dying to read the sequel in early October in the hopes of it being just as flawless.

Runner-Up:
Forgotten by Cat Patrick

Q: What was your favourite book of last year?

Poll: Bookstore Tours

Hey Guys! Sorry I haven't been posting much lately, I've been out having a life, oh woops, did you miss that joke, ha! Anyhow, I just wanted to check in while I should be wasting away seconds, minutes + hours on those ever so repetitive memes I seem to love so much for your opinion on bookstore tours.

I was introduced to the idea of venturing out to the bookstores in my local area by Alyson of Kid Lit Frenzy who travelled from Brooklyn to New York recently to hit up a few indie stores and it seemed like a bit of fun, so I thought I might try it out for myself instead of my monthly Book Depository pre-order.

While "researching", I'll be sure to photograph any of the purchases I'm sure to make in the teen aka ya section and give an overall rating to the store because I'm so judge-mental like that.

If you have any tips before I head out on my very first bookstore tour in a few days, please let me know otherwise head over to the poll     on my sidebar to vote                                                                  >>>>>>>>>>

In other news, you'll be glad to hear I have finally given in to my fear of fantasy books and have now added both The Hunger Games and The Wolves of Mercy Falls series to my favourites and am now on the lookout for more of the same :)

In Order of Excitement:
Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #2) by Maggie Stiefvater | I only just finished off the amazingness that is Shiver last week so I'm stoked to already have this book in my possession.
Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater | I'm sure I'll also be done with this pretty soon as this series has become one of my favourites.
Glow (Sky Chasers #1) by Amy Kathleen Ryan | I'm loving the cover of this one, it reminds me a whole lot of Across the Universe so let's hope it lives up the hype!
The Dead Of Night (Tomorrow #2) by John Marsden | I have no idea how I ended up walking into a bookstore and picking up a copy of this while on a complete book buying ban.
Only Ever Always by Penni Russon | Another awesome-looking Aussie YA :)
The Cardturner: A Novel about a King, a Queen, and a Joker by Louis Sachar | I haven't read many boy-books so here's hoping this one inspires me to pick up a few more.
Elliot Allagash by Simon Rich | I've heard this one is pretty hilarious but I was surprised by the cover art that turned up as it's completely different to the other versions.
The Bridge by Jane Higgins | I'm currently on a dystopian loving wave after reading The Hunger Games so you'll be seeing a whole lot more of these novels on my shelves in the future.
Cargo by Jessica Au | I'm completely surprised that this one is in total obscurity atm, I hope more people add it to their shelves soon :)
OxTravels: Meetings with Remarkable Travel Writers by Michael Palin | I have no idea what I was thinking while ordering this one, I never never never get around to reading non-fiction books but I do like the idea of hearing a few travel stories after only getting my passport recently.
Original Sin (Personal Demons #2) by Lisa Desrochers | I have just got into a few fantasy novels so I'm thinking of holding onto this one for a little bit.
Trial by Fire (Raised by Wolves, #2) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes | I'm not really sure why I ended up with this book, trade anyone?
Everlasting (The Immortals, #6) by Alyson Noel | I don't think I'll ever get around to reading this far into the series but oh what a pretty cover :)
A Straight Line To My Heart by Bill Condon | I only just read this one a little while ago, it's a really cute and sweet Aussie YA with a really good tearjerker ending.

Waiting on Wednesday #55

How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr
We can usual expect a pretty gloomy outlook from this author and the cover doesn't even try to say otherwise but this time around the story reminds me a lot of Juno and every other double-sided teen pregnancy drama so I'm hoping it works out at least a little differently this time around.

October 18th 2011 ;; Jill MacSweeney just wants everything to go back to normal. But ever since her dad died, she's been isolating herself from her boyfriend, her best friends--everyone who wants to support her. You can't lose one family member and simply replace him with a new one, and when her mom decides to adopt a baby, that's exactly what it feels like she's trying to do. And that's decidedly not normal. With her world crumbling around her, can Jill come to embrace a new member of the family?

Mandy Kalinowski knows what it's like to grow up unwanted--to be raised by a mother who never intended to have a child. So when Mandy becomes pregnant, she knows she wants a better life for her baby. But can giving up a child be as easy as it seems? And will she ever be able to find someone to care for her, too?

Critically acclaimed author and National Book Award finalist Sara Zarr delivers a heart-wrenching story, told from dual perspectives, about what it means to be a family and the many roads we can take to become one.

In Order of Excitement:
Catching Fire (The Hunger Games #2) by Suzanne Collins | My love for this series took me completely by surprise, I somehow resisted buying Catching Fire a few days ago while thinking of my overgrown bookshelf but thankfully a friend had it on her swap shelf.
Mockingjay (The Hunger Games #3) by Suzanne Collins | I'm hoping to read both these books asap but thinking realistically, let's hope I have them done by the release of the movie.
Gimme a Call by Sarah Mlynowski | I've been keeping an eye on this one for quite some time due to it's irresistible premise but I almost knocked it off my shelf after it was also printed in a middle-grade format... I'll have to see how it turns out.
Ashes, Ashes by Jo Treggiari | I actually haven't heard much about this book but I'm keen to pick it up while I'm currently obsessing over dystopia.
Honey, Baby, Sweetheart by Deb Caletti | Somehow, I always end up thinking of this author as another Sarah Dessen which only leads to disappointment with each of her books.
Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz | There's just something so captivating about the premise of this book that led me to add it to my wish list even though it's outside my usual realm of genres. Here's hoping it's as captivating as the cover looks.
Inside Out (Insider #1) by Maria V. Snyder | More dystopia for my current obsession, I'm a little less confident with how much I'll enjoy this one, though.
Where Have You Been? by Wendy James | Although this is one General Fiction, it does feature a missing teenager who reappears to claim an inheritance... all I'm saying is at least it has a cute cover!
Return to Paradise (Leaving Paradise #2) by Simone Elkeles | How is it possible that Perfect Chemistry was so mindblowing yet this series is lackluster? Anyhow, I've picked up the sequel in the hopes of it wrapping up nicely.
Summer Break (Glee #3) by Sophia Lowell | Somehow, I've managed to collect all three books in this series yet they end up sitting at the bottom of my reading stack because they seem to rate so badly. I guess I'll go watch the tv show instead :)
